Respite Services

Respite Providers deliver temporary relief and support to primary caregivers of individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism. These services are designed to give families and caregivers a necessary break while ensuring their loved ones continue to receive quality care in a safe and supportive environment.

Key Features of Respite Provider Services
• Temporary Care: Respite services can range from a few hours to several days, depending on family needs and approved plans.
• Flexible Settings: Care may be provided in the individual’s home, the caregiver’s home, or a licensed residential setting.
• Trained Staff: Respite Providers are qualified to meet the health, safety, and emotional needs of individuals, often with specialized training in developmental disabilities.
• Individualized Support: Care is tailored to the individual's routines, preferences, and needs as outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
• Supports Family Well-Being: Enables caregivers to maintain their own health and balance, reducing burnout and stress.

Why Respite Provider Services Are Important
• Ensures Continuous Quality Care: Individuals receive compassionate, knowledgeable care during caregivers’ absence.
• Promotes Family Stability: Gives caregivers necessary breaks to recharge and manage life responsibilities.
• Supports Crisis Prevention: Provides relief before caregiver fatigue can lead to emergency situations or disruptions in care.
• Enhances Individual’s Social Experience: Sometimes respite involves engaging individuals in community activities or new environments, which can be enriching.

How to Access Respite Provider Services
• Eligibility & Waiver Enrollment: IHCS is provided under ODP’s 1915(c) waivers (e.g., Consolidated, Community Living, and Person/Family Directed Support). These waiver options allow Medicaid funds to be used for respite care.
• Eligibility and hours are based on the Individual Support Plan and available funding.
• Families collaborate with our team to select qualified respite providers that meet their loved one’s specific needs.
